The JBoy Show Welcomes FoxSportsRadio Host, Covers Upcoming SEC Football Season

  • Fox Sports senior writer Aaron Torres joins top podcast to talk SEC football
  • JBoy host Crain calls upcoming SEC football virtual media days a “stepping stone” to kick off football season
  • Torres, Crain agree that this year’s season is “fascinating on all fronts”

The JBoy Show, a top-ranked sports news podcast that takes an in-depth look at SEC sports with a special focus on the SEC West, welcomed FoxSportsRadio host Aaron Torres to its June 19 episode. A senior writer at Fox Sports and host of his own sport podcast, Torres and the JBoy Show host Jake Crain focused their attention on the upcoming SEC football season.

“It feels like it was just yesterday I was in Vegas for the Pac-12 tournament, and the world shut down,” observed Torres, talking about the impact COVID-19 has had on sports. “And you know, here we are, and we’re what? About two, two and half, three weeks from SEC media days. It’s just incredible how the calendar has turned here over the last three, four months.”

Crain noted that, with the SEC’s recent announcement that its annual football media days will take place, albeit virtually, finally “it’s kind of starting to feel different,” he said. “Even though the media days will be virtual, that’s still kind of like the stepping stone to kick the season off, so I know everybody is excited about getting it going.”

During the podcast, Crain and Torres discussed the prospects of the SEC East and West football teams, both agreeing that this year some upsets could be in the works. “The focus has been on the West this year, but I think the East is incredibly fascinating really on all fronts,” said Torres.

“I mean, listen, all the topics that we’ve been talking about since the end of last season are still very much valid in terms of, you know, is Georgia ever going to get over that hump?” he said. “You look at their personnel. You say, they can do this. But you know, you play Alabama and Tuscaloosa in late September, and you know you haven’t had success against LSU and Alabama since Kirby Smart got there, really since  Nick Saban got to Alabama, and you know, is this the year? Florida, do they make the leap? Tennessee, can they continue to build momentum?

“And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think Kentucky is fascinating where I think they kind of overachieved last year with the Lynn Bowden situation, now they’re going to go back to more of kind of a traditional in a way they run their team and program,” he continued. “It’s weird to say, I don’t know that you can narrow it down to even one or two story lines. I think just about everybody is interesting.”

Crain agreed. “I think it’s going to be a log jam, Aaron,” he observed. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the team that came out of the east had two losses in conference. . . And then I look over at the West. . . .”

The deep-dive discussion between Crain and Torres covered predictions, schedules, positions and personnel — both inside the SEC and outside. In short, the two agree that the upcoming SEC football season is certain to provide plenty of excitement, surprises and satisfaction.
