SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — A juvenile was arrested for firearm charges in Springfield on Sunday.
At 10 p.m., the Springfield Police Department Street Crimes Unit observed two suspicious juveniles walking in the middle of 11th Street.
Officers recognized one of the male juveniles as being involved in disturbances, weapons violations, and shootings within the city of Springfield.
As officers approached the juveniles, the subject officers were familiar with fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. A loaded revolver was found in his sweatshirt.
The 16-year-old male juvenile was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID-ineligible, possession of a firearm and firearm ammunition, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
The arrested juvenile met the criteria for incarceration, however there was no available placement throughout the state. He was placed on electronic monitoring and released to a parent.
